Gisele Bündchen is making a big philanthropic move in her life by giving back to the community. The supermodel has pledged $1 million to the Miami chapter of Lotus House, the largest women’s shelter in the US, which is building a new state-of-the-art facility called The Children’s Village. The new facility will focus on the needs of the community’s youth and prevent homelessness in the area. Gisele’s donation will contribute to the construction of a new playground and more programming within the village. She believes that building a solid community for children, especially the vulnerable and in need, is critical. The Lotus House has been serving more than 10,000 women and children since 2006, with over 80% of guests successfully exiting, which is significantly higher than the national average.

Why it matters: By helping sheltered children and Overtown youth “blossom into who they are meant to be,” Lotus House founder Constance Collins is expanding her ambitions from seeking to end homelessness to trying to prevent it in the first place.
